I started writing a newsletter soon after President Obama was elected in 2008. He inspired me to think, “What can I do, that won’t cost much money, but will benefit my community?” No one was covering local news, and so I called the newsletter FYI 98642 to show that it contained information about zip code 98642, my home.

Popularity of the newsletter grew and grew, until there were over 650 subscribers, and I finally decided to make it ‘prettier’ and publish it more than once a week. There got to be four or five pages in each issue, and I found that I was missing events by only publishing once a week.

This blog is the result. Now I’m able to include pictures and more detailed write-ups, as well as sending information in a more timely manner. I hope you find it useful. I welcome suggestions and comments.

Ridgefield is a very special place. With 7000+ residents, it’s a community that cares about its people. We’re within walking distance of the Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge, which gets over 100,000 visitors a year. Our downtown business area has been likened to Mayberry because it’s like a slice of old-time America. We are slowly becoming a ‘destination’ town – there are enough unique stores and restaurants to make a trip to Ridgefield worthwhile.

The First Saturday of the month is special in Ridgefield. Each month there’s a different theme, and stores entice shoppers with special deals. We have five wineries in the area, and a total of ten in the county, so we’ve become a destination for wine-lovers. Ridgefield has an active business association and puts on many community events during the year.  Be sure you check out the ‘Calendar’ section to see what’s happening in town. You’ll be seeing pictures of activities as we go through the year.

I invite you to subscribe to this blog if you haven’t done so. I may be reached at if you want to chat.

Please send information to be published on the blog at least three days before the event.
