FCIAC Playoff Showdown: Ridgefield & Staples Lead the Pack

As the 2025 FCIAC Boys Basketball Tournament approaches, Ridgefield is in prime position to secure the No. 1 seed, holding a strong lead over the competition. Staples still has a shot at taking the top spot, while Fairfield Warde and Fairfield Ludlowe are also in the mix for higher seeding. Meanwhile, around seven other teams are battling for the final four playoff spots, making the race for the postseason highly competitive. With just three games left in the regular season, the final standings are still up for grabs.

Ridgefield Leads the Standings, Staples Still in Contention

Ridgefield currently holds the best record in FCIAC play, sitting at an undefeated 12-0 in conference games. They also have a two-game lead over second-place Staples, which stands at 10-2. However, Staples still has a chance to claim the top seed. For that to happen, they need Ridgefield to lose at least one of their upcoming games before the two teams meet on February 19 at Ridgefield High School for their final regular-season matchup.

Both teams recently improved to 14-3 overall with victories on February 10. Ridgefield extended their winning streak to seven games with a 64-57 win at Trumbull, while Staples rebounded from a narrow loss to Trumbull (46-45 on February 7) by defeating Danbury 42-34.

Fairfield Warde and Fairfield Ludlowe Eye Higher Seeds

Fairfield Warde and Fairfield Ludlowe are also performing well, with identical 9-3 conference records and 13-4 overall records. Warde currently holds the advantage in a potential tiebreaker after defeating Ludlowe 54-52 in their January 31 matchup. Both teams remain strong contenders for a high seed in the FCIAC tournament.

New Canaan (7-5 in FCIAC, 11-5 overall) and Greenwich (7-5 in FCIAC, 8-8 overall) are tied for fifth place. New Canaan secured a key win over Greenwich (58-48) on January 17, which could be crucial in playoff positioning.

The Battle for the Final Playoff Spots

Four teams—Trumbull, Brien McMahon, Stamford, and Wilton—are currently tied for seventh place with 6-6 records in FCIAC play. Trumbull has the best overall record among them (10-7), followed by McMahon (9-8), while Stamford and Wilton are both 8-9.

Westhill, previously struggling with an 0-8 start, has turned things around and now sits just one game behind the seventh-place teams with a 5-7 conference record. They kept their playoff hopes alive with a 55-47 victory over Bridgeport Central on February 11.

Bridgeport Central (4-8 in FCIAC, 7-9 overall) and St. Joseph (4-8, 6-11 overall) are tied for 12th place, while Danbury (3-9), Darien (1-11), and Norwalk (1-11) are on the outside looking in.
