National Weather Service Alert: Snow Forecast for Greater Portland Metro Area

The National Weather Service issued a weather alert at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, forecasting snow until 9 a.m. for the Greater Portland Metro area, Central Willamette Valley, and South Willamette Valley.

According to the weather service, rain showers have transitioned to snow in the early morning across much of the Willamette Valley, with temperatures cooling to the low to mid-30s. Minor snow accumulations of up to 1 inch are expected for elevations below 500 feet, extending to the valley floor through late morning.

These accumulations will primarily affect grassy or elevated surfaces. At elevations above 500 feet, higher accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are possible. However, the accumulating snow is anticipated to melt quickly as temperatures are expected to remain above freezing throughout the morning.
